KATHMANDU, Nepal - The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, or CIAA, has filed a charge sheet in the Special Court against 14 people, including former Transportation Management Office chiefs, for alleged corruption.
They are accused of issuing driving licenses compromising the government's rules and regulations.
The anti-graft body has sued two former TMO chiefs, seven other TMO employees, and five go-betweens. According to a CIAA press release issued Saturday, former heads, in collaboration with other employees and middlemen, issued 533 fake licenses by tampering with the records of licenses that were automatically canceled due to death or failure to renew within the specified period.
Five middlemen would look for people who wanted to get a license and introduce them to TMO officials. TMO officials would alter old records in the computer section before issuing new ones.
The CIAA reported that TMO officials issued licenses to 553 people over 14 months.
