PESHAWAR, Pakistan On Thursday, three police constables were killed in a terrorist attack at a checkpoint in Jamrud, tehsil of Khyber tribal district, according to police.
The attack was claimed by the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
According to police, unknown individuals attacked the Takhta Beg police checkpoint at 7:30 p.m. According to the statement, the gunmen entered the premises armed with hand grenades and opened fire with a submachine gun.
A suicide bomber blew himself up after the shooting. "Three police constables have been killed, while reports of the injured have yet to be received," the statement said, naming the victims Manzoor, Yunus, and Rafiq.
According to Khyber District Police Officer (DPO) Imran Khan, the assailants opened fire and lobbed hand grenades while a suicide bomber was also present.
KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan condemned the attack and asked the provincial police chief for a report. He said in a statement that he had directed police to send reinforcements.
"The martyrs' sacrifices will not be in vain," he said.
The incident on Thursday comes just days after a senior police officer and two constables were martyred in a midnight militant attack on the Sarband police station on the outskirts of Peshawar.
