NEW DELHI, India - Nepal's Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal met with Indian counterpart Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Thursday.
During the meeting, various matters of mutual interest and issues of the two countries, such as energy trade, commerce, and air routes, were discussed and agreed upon.
Following the meeting, Dahal and Modi held a joint press conference to announce the signing of various agreements and memorandums of understanding.
The two prime ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding to expand trade and transit and to build the Siliguri-Jhapa Petroleum Pipeline.
Dahal and Modi laid the foundation for the Sunauli Bhairahawa Integrated Checkpost, a petroleum pipeline from Amlekhganj to Lothar in Chitwan, and a 400 KV double circuit transmission line between Gorakhpur and New Butwal.
During the press conference, Prime Minister Dahal shared Nepal's southern neighbor's positive response to the country's request for additional high-altitude entry routes.
"Nepal appreciates India's indication of air entry routes for bilateral flights that are operationally feasible for ATR aircraft." "We request that an additional high-altitude entry route from Mahendranagar be approved as soon as possible," Dahal said.
Nepal and India have also signed a long-term power agreement in which Nepal will sell excess power to India. A project development agreement for the Pukhot-Karnali Hydropower Project and an agreement for the Lower Arun Hydropower Project were also signed with Indian investment.
Dahal and Modi also signed agreements between Nepal and India on digital payments.
