Dr. Yasmin acquitted: Police failed to produce any evidence against her

On Saturday, an anti-terrorism court acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Yasmin Rashid of an attack on the Lahore corps commander's house.
However, a review of the record revealed that Dr. Yasmin was not named in the first information report (FIR), the court order read.
Following nationwide violent protests, Yasmeen was arrested by Lahore Police on May 17 under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).

LAHORE, Pakistan - On Saturday, an anti-terrorism court acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Yasmin Rashid of an attack on the Lahore corps commander's house. The verdict was announced by anti-terrorism court judge Abher Gul Khan, who rejected the police request for physical remand because the police failed to produce evidence against her in the case. The court stated in its order that the investigating officer had requested a 14-day physical remand of Dr. Yasmin Rashid for photogrammetry, voice match tests, and mobile phone recovery.

However, a review of the record revealed that Dr. Yasmin was not named in the first information report (FIR), the court order read. According to the order, Dr. Yasmin was summoned in the case on the disclosure of co-accused, which has no legal weight. It said, "Since no incriminating material is available on record to connect her with the commission of the offense, therefore, the request of the investigating officer is turned down, and she is accordingly discharged from the instant case." If Dr. Yasmin is not required in any other case, the court issued orders to release her immediately.

Following nationwide violent protests, Yasmeen was arrested by Lahore Police on May 17 under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO). Following that, cases were filed against Dr. Yasmin in Lahore for her alleged involvement in the riots. Sections of the cases also dealt with terrorism and other serious charges. Last week, an anti-terrorism court sentenced her to 14 days in jail on judicial remand.
